Past Shows
at Broderick Gallery:
January 2002
Portland native, K C Madsen constructs paintings with color and forms fields
united by line, creating a great sense of harmony. "Even though my work is very
active it invites the viewer to allow the minds eye and perception to take in the out of
focus stimulation in their external world thus create a relaxed, comfortable state of
mind. "By temporarily freezing the mind in this state we can stop attempting to
bring order and control to our external world," says Madsen.
Madsen has a proficient background in art history and continues to actively pursue
knowledge of current artists and art movements. Currently, she is pursuing a
graduate degree in painting from New York University. Madsen has been featured in
several group shows and received two Best of Show awards at the Northview Gallery at
Portland Community College in May 1996 and May 1997. She has a show in New York
scheduled in 2002 and will have her third show with the Broderick Gallery in January of
this coming year.
"The abstract is what we see when we are not concentrating on ordering the objects,
lines, arches and colors that we see in our visual field throughout the normal course of
our day." - K C Madsen
