Sandgren just returned to teaching from an extended sabbatical leave, which included a European artist residency with the Alfred Klots program at Rochefort-en-Terre in France administered by the Maryland Institute College of Art.

My ‘interpretations’ works grew out of studies and sketches I made in museums, which inform my overwhelming sense of human history as a succession of gods and idols, preoccupations and beliefs which are at once isolated from each other and similar in form. I hope to offer more than just a scenic view through these and my landscapes, which were done on location.”
