Rothan paints in oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Of her lyrical abstract paintings, a reviewer once remarked, "one part correct art mechanics, one part predictable new-age human spirituality and one part self-regenerating lust, this doyen of less-known Oregon painters somehow offers up images which escape our time to float between electronic, ephemeral and ecclesiastic. This is not elevator painting, this is not mood painting, this is not atmospheric painting, this is painting as portal."

"The artist's task is to record courageously what is experienced,” says Rothan.

An artist, educator, and designer, Rothan has shown her paintings and sculpture in several galleries since 1988, including: On the Wall in Medford, Ore.; Hanson Howard Gallery, Ashland, Ore.; Poor Richard’s, St. Petersburg Fla.; Gango Gallery , Portland, Ore.; Sunbird Gallery, Bend, Ore.; and Avenida Gallery, Bend, Ore. Rothan studied clay, painting, and photography at Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio.
