Jack McLarty
was born in Seattle in 1919. He attended the Museum Art School
(which is now PNCA), American Artists School, New York City and has
had private study with Anton Refregier, Joseph Solman, and Sol
Wilson. He has also attended special workshops in Japanese
printmaking techniques with Junichiro Sekino and Akira Kurosaki.
Jack has taught at the Museum Art School (PNCA), Pacific University,
University of Oregon Summer Session, and PNCA Summer Workshop.

Jack has
shown his work in the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian
Institution, and has had a 30 year retrospective at the Portland Art
Museum. He has painted murals for the Portland Civic Auditorium
(Keller Auditorium) and Portland City Hall (across from the Mayor’s
office) among others. Jack has work in numerous collections
including the Seattle Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, Library of
Congress, British Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Hallie Ford
Museum (Willamette University) and Pacific University (Forest Grove,
Oregon).

Jack has
also written several books:
“17 Love Poems” (published by Image Gallery, 1966)
“To His Coy Mistress” (published by Image Gallery, 1972)
“Wind and Pines” (published by Image Gallery, 1977)
“The Book of Color” (sponsored by Art Advocates, 1990).
Jack
still resides in Portland with his wife and manager Barbara.
