Nils Lou`s thoughts on clay during his preparations for this exhibition:
Clay can be all things or any thing, responsive to the slightest intuitive touch,
or so refractory as to nub the senses. It is the most difficult medium I can
imagine. It is forgiving yet demands intense concentration. Playground,
solace, religion, it has been my nemesis, antagonist, my conduit to understanding.
Clay defines my esthetic experience. Unconquerable, yet it may at times allow
a seductive illusion of conquest.
