Portrait of a Fly
20" x 24.5"

"Early in my youth I drew a
toy road grader which my mother pronounced brilliant. Although that crude Crayola
sketch has long since disappeared, my reputation as the family artistic prodigy has not.
While growing up, the school years were frequently punctuated with projects
and experiments in the graphic realm and culminated with a degree in Art from BYU in 1975
In 1984 I opened my own business in Salem (Dave's Signs) which I operated for the
next fifteen years.
These labors were not
particularly fulfilling, artistically, but prepared me to wield a brush with power and
precision. Refinements in the elements of composition and color, and patience in the
manual skills were honed.
With the representational, I
hope to enhance our appreciation of the visible world and with the non-representational
abstract, our appreciation of soul and the character. With God's help, a few
important others and and your kindly patronage I hope to continue producing, not
necessarily bigger and better things, but wiser and better paintings."
