Vanessa Calvert and George Broderick

Broderick Gallery’s July exhibit features Portland artists, Vanessa Calvert and George Broderick. 

Vanessa Calvert’s describes her encaustic/photo-collage work, “Stripped down to their essence, my subjects are concentrated studies of the solitary nature of our surroundings.  Reflecting the worn nature of the subjects, the background is scraped and fused in order to suspend the object, like a memory, with some pieces missing and some repeated or replaced”.

The oil on canvas paintings of George Broderick unite old world architecture with modern figurative compositions.  These are distortions of reality relying on the use of bright color and imaginative objects to engage the viewer.
