Helen Trayle, a native Oregonian who lives in southwest Portland, has been a printmaker, portrait painter, and educator.  She began her distinguished printmaking career in 1975, specializing in intaglio/aquatint etchings and has perfected the process of using a minimum number of plates (copper, zinc or steel) to create her work.

Charlene Robinson, a lifelong artist, lives in Hillsboro and has worked in a variety of media.  In 1991, she acquired a 22"x 60" hand-pulled etching press.  Since then, she has concentrated mainly on etchings using multiple plates (copper, zinc, or steel) to produce full color etchings.   The artist likes to combine several different intaglio processes to achieve a variety of effects and textures.  She also enjoys working in watercolor, mixed media, and encaustic.

“In a city known for it’s print-makers, these two are the very best,” said George Broderick, gallery founder, “they will never be content to sit back and simply paint pretty pictures.”

Both are seasoned artists who continue to push the boundaries of the print medium. Trayle’s work often features northwest landscapes and imagery, but the artist is known to subtly include unexpected orbs and other geometric shapes, increasing the complexity of her compositions. Robinson’s work veers more toward the narrative, deftly illustrating intriguing moments in time as well as landscapes which have captured her attention.

In addition to showing at Broderick Gallery and Print Arts Northwest, Robinson and Trayle have both been featured in numerous national, regional and local juried exhibitions. Each has work in public and private collections stateside and abroad. Their northwest art affiliations include: Northwest Print Council,  Watercolor Society of Oregon, PNCA Alumni,  Lake Area Artists and Painters Showcase.
