"Tribute"
paper, acrylic and reed
6" x 10.5" x 9.5"
June
Kerseg-Hinson, a basketry artist from Olympia, WA, moves beyond the concept of a basket as
a container with her innovative use of spun paper, wire and found objects.
"As a form, it invites me to explore shape as holder, materials
both as substance, decoration, personal expression and size as symbolic of
relationships."

"Fountain
Earthly"
metal and mixed media
13" x 7" x 7"
A
student of the famous weaver Neda Al-Helali, June utilizes several weaving techniques in
her contemporary mixed media baskets. Alec Clayton, an art critic wrote of Hinson's work,
"her baskets combine inventive use of materials with a solid
sense of formal design, resulting in a timeless art that references early American craft
and religious artifacts from ancient Egypt while remaining thoroughly contemporary in
their unity of form."

"Awakening"
paper, acrylic and bamboo
June Kerseg-Hinson burst onto the
contemporary basketry scene two years ago and has exhibited nationally since that time.
She is the recipient of several purchase awards and her work is included in permanent
collections both stateside and abroad. This exhibition marks June Kerseg-Hinson's first
show with the Broderick Gallery.
